Born and raised in Chicago,
IL. Dancing since the age of 5,
dance has always been apart of Sekou’s
life. Performing dance and singing
routines with siblings at the age
of 8(hip-hop and R&B) it wasn’t
until early college years that Sekou
was introduced to the world of Salsa/Mambo.
First dancing the “Cumbia-style”
it wasn’t long before the
technical and musical background
took over and Sekou began reaching
for excellent and proficiency and
different ways of expressing himself.
Using his background in Jazz/hip-hop
and being a classically trained
Flutist/composer, Sekou began exploring
the art of Salsa dancing. |

"Salsa y Control" Dance Company originated from the enjoyment and immense passion for dancing salsa mambo music and from the desire to inspire others to dance.
"Salsa y Control" started as an all male group that set out to share the peace and fulfillment salsa mambo dancing gives the soul. The group was made up of two brothers, Johnny and Andres Giraldo. It was the first and only all male group in Boston. They named themselves after the song "Salsa y Control" by "Los Hermanos Lebron".

| Art in Motion Latin Dancers performance group was formed in late 2003 and is based in the Philadelphia/South New Jersey area, with members from New Jersey, Delaware, and Washington DC. This group of energetic, experienced and gifted teachers and performers assembled to share their artistic visions and to create and perform their own choreography. Most of the members are dance instructors and teach salsa at various locations including La Luna Dance Studio, the Starlight Ballroom, local nightclubs, the University of Pennsylvania, and also at venues in Delaware and the Washington DC area. Art in Motion has performed in dance clubs locally, and has performed nationally and internationally. They have performed and taught at 6 Salsa Congresses last year alone. Other accomplishments include various members being featured in MTV's Real World: Philadelphia, in Jill Scott's video "SLIDES", and as back-up dancers for Latin Singer Gloria Allende. |

Starlite
Dance Studio is home to several
talented dance teams - one of which
is The Sweethearts. The Sweethearts
is an all female dance group comprised
of 9 girls ranging in age from 11-18.
Originally, David Melendez created
the Sweethearts for the purpose
of doing one routine – but
through perseverance and hard work
they’ve made a name for themselves
in the mambo scene. Lettie, Theresa,
Christina, Heather, Venus, Erika,
Walnette, Michelle and Danielle
have a passion for dance that pushes
them to work hard to accomplish
their goals, both in dance and in
their education. These girls work
well together and their style and
energy light up the stages they
dance on. The personal bond they
share is evident in their performances.
Their talent and hard work has truly
made them an exceptional team. These
girls are true Sweethearts, inside
and out.
